A lithophane is a photograph printed as thickness rather than ink. Where the picture is dark the wall is printed thick, where it is light it is printed thin — so unlit it reads as a pale panel, and with a light behind it the photograph appears, held in the material itself. Nothing is printed on the surface, so there is nothing to fade. A rectangle 7 × 5 cm on a stand, lit by a battery tea light behind it. The smallest of the lamps — one photograph, no cable, and it stands wherever a candle would. Send the photograph and we will tell you how it will read before anything is printed.
